The first step was to choose the alloy. Cold rolled sheet steel in a soft temper provided good formability along with the desired performance characteristics for the finished product.
We carefully prepared the blanks to avoid cracking or tearing as the parts were drawn, and used a series of press strokes on various tonnage punch presses to form, pierce, and trim the 0.1196” gauge parts.
Vibratory deburring removed all traces of particulate prior to application of the zinc plating and gold trivalent chrome finish.
Featuring finished dimensions of 8.250” in diameter x 1.430” in depth, we inspected each piece to confirm we met the ± 0.005” tolerances called for in the specification. Our ability to perform the secondary operations on site resulted in cost savings, higher quality finished pieces, and less administrative burden on our client.
