To manufacture this circuit board stiffener, we used multiple forming processes on a universally tooled punch press and a CNC press brake. We started by stamping 0.0478” ±0.004” thick soft-tempered cold-rolled sheet steel. Next we stamped four holes and one notch into each part and performed the necessary bending on the tab and the leg. Self-clinching studs were used to attach the stiffener to the circuit board.
Each part measured 10.05” long (±0.004”) x 0.960” wide x 0.545” high and weighed 1.5 oz. A certified yellow zinc plating was applied as a protective layer and for aesthetic purposes. All of the design decisions were made within the purview of the client-supplied blueprints for the part and all of the raw materials and components used in the project are ROHS/2002/95/EC compliant.
This project is an example of our ability to take on projects that require multiple forming processes coupled with some parts assembly. We worked closely with the client to deliver 1,500 parts to the Midwest in just four weeks. Dimensional and visual inspections were crucial factors in getting this product out the door on time.
