Material of construction was 0.197” thick low carbon 1008/1010 steel, AKDQ temper, a material produced especially for fabricating parts that require severe forming or drawing operations. Our unique short run stamping methods, which involve a controlled series of single-hit operations, guaranteed repeatable accuracy of the blanking, forming, and trimming processes. Additional manufacturing steps consisted of applying electrically insulating Kapton® tape as well as a RoHS compliant bright solderable tin finish per AMS-P-81728.
When completed, the cover measured 2.3” in length x 1.4” in width x .49” in height. Dimensional inspections at all critical points in the manufacturing cycle ensured that each of the 45 units in this order satisfied the client’s ±0.005” tolerance requirement. Our ability to work with a diverse range of materials as well as manage the project from concept to completion within a narrow timeline provided the customer with a value-based solution for production of this high quality part.
