This project required the coordination of multiple operations, including blanking, piercing, forming, and cut off prior to finishing and assembly.
Production took place primarily on our punch presses using universal tooling to help keep costs to a minimum, and the CNC controls allowed us to uphold ±.005” tolerances. We produced the components from different thickness of annealed stainless steel to promote accurate forming and good weldability.
The completed actuator bracket featured finished dimensions of 2.180” in length x 3.640” in width x 6.654” in height, and weighing 1.105 lbs.
Due to its complex shape, we used an electropolishing process for passivating and improving the surface finish. In addition to dimensional inspections, quality assurance for this project also involved destructive testing of sample parts to assess weld performance and material behavior under various load conditions. A four week timeframe was all that was needed to complete the 500 units in this order.
